How Often Should I Have My Fuel System Cleaned?

The health of your fuel system depends on cleanliness. Over time deposits develop in various places in your car’s fuel system while you are driving. Just like the arteries in your body, the fuel lines of your car can collect deposits that build to the point of near-closure. Such deposits reduce the fuel pressure at the point of injection into the combustion chamber.

There is no clear recommendation of when you should have your fuel system cleaned. The car manufacturers do not include that in your owner’s manual. Most, however, do include the recommendation to change out your fuel filters every 30,000 miles. That recommendation provides a clue of when to clean your entire fuel system. As a preventative measure, have your fuel pressure checked every oil change.

Our service center here at Hendrick BMW Northlake in Charlotte, NC we have the tools and expertise to diagnose your fuel system.
