Perhaps you've heard that BMW is set to split its venerable BMW 3 Series line right down the middle? If you're nodding in agreement, then Hendrick BMW Northlake has a feeling you'll be eager to know what we have to share. The dedicated automaker has released further details for the line that will encompass half of the previous 3 Series: the freshly-badged BMW 4 Series.
Taking the former 3 Series coupe, convertible, and a new Gran Coupe under its nameplate, the forthcoming 4 Series will come to market next summer as 2014 models. Here's what we know so far.
Design
Several rounds of spy shots and teaser photos have been circulating the internet and all signs point to sleeker styling. With enhanced character lines giving off an even more upscale look and solidifying sporty intent, the 4 Series coupe and convertible are said to visually stand out from their 3 Series descendants.
Power
Thus far in the game, it's looking like the 4 Series will stick close to its cousins in terms of powertrain. This means the line will make use of a four-cylinder engine with petrol and diesel options. Of course, a turbocharged 3.0-liter will also be available for those wanting a bit of extra oomph. What's more, officials say the M Performance options will be carried over to the 4 Series badge as well with new characteristics further separating them from their standard siblings.
