Here in Charlotte we are all relieved to hear that Hurricane Irma has been downgraded to a tropical storm. With all severe weather it is important to stay safe and take the proper precautions to ensure the inclement weather doesn't do more damage than it should.

As the tropical storm comes our way we can possibly see wind gusts of up to 50 miles-per-hour. To avoid unwanted damage to your vehicles you should avoid these following things.

  • Move your vehicle into a garage or covered structure, if not move your vehicle away from trees or other objects that may fall and cause damage.
  • To avoid water damage avoid parking your vehicle in low-lying areas that have higher risks of flooding.
  • Flash flooding can occur up to 12 hours after heavy rainfall. You can take the following steps to protect your vehicle

  • If you come across a large puddle or standing water, go around the water or choose another route, water splashing into your engine can cause damage.
  • Make sure to keep your headlights on in heavy rain and drive slowly.
  • To avoid hydroplaning, give yourself plenty of time to stop.

Remember to stay safe during inclement weather and to make sure that you have taken the steps to prepare your vehicle.
