As we mentioned the other week, our favorite automaker gave us a lot to look forward to at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. There were EVs; there were hybrids; there were convertibles; there were concepts. Needless to say, the anticipation was palpable here at Hendrick BMW Northlake.
Lo and behold, it was just the beginning.
Just recently, cameras caught a camouflaged 2016 BMW 5-Series testing on the track. Try as it might to hide its physique, specs and rumors have already begun to emerge about the next generation of this signature series.
From what we've heard, the seventh-generation 5-Series will be offered in three different styles: sedan, Touring and GT. Even while undercover, it's hard to miss its sleek, overhauled physique that's reported to reduce its co-efficient of drag. Not only that, but thanks to its new OKL platform that's comprised of steel, aluminum and carbon fibre parts, the overall kerb weight of the vehicle will also be reduced.
As far as its powertrain options are concerned, we're still waiting on an official confirmation. Nevertheless, rumor has it that it will come with gasoline and diesel options, plus a four- and six-cylinder engines to choose from. If what we're hearing is true, there may even be a V8 on the table.
Like we said, we're still waiting on an official confirmation and we've still got a while before it rolls into our dealership sometime in 2015. Until then, feel free to gain a base of comparison with a test drive in the 2013 BMW 535i here in Charlotte, NC. The future has never looked brighter.
