In keeping with the trend to enhance eco-friendly offerings within the world of automobiles, BMW developed its BMW i sub-brand that many of you may already be familiar with. The two vehicles within the lineup thus far are the BMW i3 electric hybrid, and the i8 plug-in hybrid.

Each of these models began as concepts that were well received and then quickly sent to production. The BMW i8 in particular earned quite a bit of attention, earning the Concept Car of the year award in 2012.

At the recent North American Concept Car of the Year Awards, the BMW i8 Roadster was once again recognized, only this time as the Best Production Preview Vehicle. Concept Cars qualify for this category only if they've been selected by their automakers to be sent to production.

Over two dozen experienced Automotive Journalists from all over North America represented the panel of jurors that voted on the awards. In order to select the concept models that showed the most potential for influencing the automotive industry, they evaluated each model for market responsiveness and viability, along with technology, style and design. In addition to Best Production Preview and Concept Car, the jurors also selected a model for the Best Concept Truck/SUV category, Specialty Concept, and Most Significant Concept of the auto show season.

BMW proved once again that its concept models are designed in a way to capture the attention of the jurors. All of us at Hendrick BMW Northlake are certainly excited to see the i8 Roadster transformed in the future to become a part of the new BMW lineup.
